Uber Code Text Scam Messages Being Sent by Cybercriminals

Would you share this Question and Answer with others?

I have received seven texts containing 5 different Uber codes over 3 days. I have never requested an Uber and haven't even yet to set up my profile on the app so I know that nobody is taking free rides at my expense. This certainly must be a new form of spam or attempt to get access to my phone. Blocking the number will hopefully stop it.
