Please be vigilant and be cautious of automated National Insurance fraud scam calls mentioning your National Insurance number has been compromised. It’s important to remember if you’re contacted out of the blue by someone asking for your personal or financial details, this could be a scam. Confirming your personal details, such as your email address, date of birth, or mother’s maiden name, can be used by online scammers to commit fraud. If you have any doubts about what is being asked of you, hang up the phone. No legitimate organization will rush or pressure you.

Potential victims of the National Insurance scam calls are instructed to press 1 to be connected to someone in order to get a new National Insurance number. Once connected to the so-called person who can help them, the potential victims are pressured into handing over personal details, which the scammers is needed in order for them receive a new National Insurance number. But, disclosing your personal information to the scammers will allow them to use it fraudulently.

Additionally, if you've received a suspicious phone call, you can help the HMRC's investigations by providing your phone number, the caller's phone number, the date and time of the call and a brief description to phishing@hmrc.gov.uk
