• Suspension and Fraud Threats: Terrifying alerts claiming your Social Security number has been linked to criminal activity or that your benefits are being suspended immediately.
• Unclaimed "Federal Relief" Checks: Phony notifications from non-existent agencies offering grants, "free money," or disaster relief checks.

Major Red Flags to Look For

• Non-Government Sender Address: Official federal emails always end in .gov (e.g., ssa.gov or irs.gov). Scammers use lookalike domains or public providers like Gmail or Yahoo.
• Urgent Demands and Ultimatums: Threatening to stop your checks or take legal action if you do not respond instantly.
• Requests for Downloads: The real SSA will never ask you to download a "Security Update Tool," "Statement Viewer," or any email attachments to see your account.
