Update Your EarthLink Online Account Phishing Scam

EarthLink customers, be aware of "Update Your EarthLink Online Account" emails like the one below. The fake email which claims which claims the recipients' need to verify their accounts in order to avoid suspension, is a phishing scam being sent by cyber-criminals. The phishing email tricks EarthLink customers replying with their account credentials (usernames and passwords) and personal information. But, remember, Earthlink will never request their customers' account credentials, and will never ask their customers to send their personal information via an email message.

Dear user,

This E-mail been sent to you by the Earthlink Verification Team to inform you that your account will be deactivated within the next 48 hours due to increased spam and phishing activities globally, a DGTFX trojan virus has been detected in some of our Earthlink users Account and your email account was among. Your email account server will be upgraded with our new secure 1024-bit RSA key anti-virus firewall to prevent damage and spread of the virus. Click your reply tab, fill the columns below and send back to us for confirmation of the upgrade or your email account will be terminated to avoid spread of the virus. You will have to confirm your E-mail by filling out your Login Information below after clicking the reply button, otherwise your access to Earthlink services will be suspended.
