Audrey Patrice Marks, H.E., Jamaica's Ambassador to the United State, has published the notice below to alert the public, especially those of the Jamaican business and political communities, to fake social media profiles of her created by cybercriminals. The cybercriminals/scammers created the fake social media profiles using Ambassador Audrey Marks identity in an attempt to trick their potential victims into sending them money.

Dear friends,

Recently hackers and purloiners have attempted to forge my identity over social media platforms LinkedIn and Instagram, as well as Gmail and WhatsApp.

They have been faking my identity in efforts to extract large sums of money from members of the Jamaican business and political communities. I am publicizing this information to prevent unsuspecting friends, relatives, colleagues, acquaintances and members of the public from falling victim to this major scam.

Fortunately, to the best of my knowledge, no one has fallen victim to this criminal scheme. I am also sharing this experience as an important reminder of to all Jamaicans at home and members of the Diaspora community of our ongoing collective exposure to these criminals, especially as we engage with social media.
