Is Apple Device Performance Litigation Class Action a Scam?

If you are or were a U.S. owner of an iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, and/or SE device that ran iOS 10.2.1 or later before December 21, 2017, and/or a U.S. owner of an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus device that ran iOS 11.2 or later before December 21, 2017, you could be entitled to benefits under the Apple Class Action Lawsuit or Apple Device Performance Litigation settlement. The website, www.smartphoneperformancesettlement.com, is the official website to submit a claim. Apple customers can receive about $25 per phone as part of the company's settlement of a class-action lawsuit that accused it of slowing down older devices.

Affected users must submit a claim online or via mail by October 6, 2020, to be eligible for a payout. A court filing in March said the amount each user receives could increase or decrease depending on how many claims are filed as well as any additional legal fees and expenses approved by the court.

Apple agreed to pay out up to $500 million as part of the settlement agreement earlier this year, capping a years-long legal battle in which it tried to ease a global backlash against its practices.

The application form on smartphoneperformancesettlement.com will ask for your device serial number and Apple ID only. Some Apple thinks the website is a scam because it asks them for their Apple ID, but there is no need to worry, the important thing is not to give out your password.

I received a post card, which I think may be a phishing attempt, because the url provided cannot be found. It is www.SmartPhonePerformanceSettlement.com. I also tried it using https:// at the beginning, but that did not work either.
