The Costco text scam messages below are being sent by online scammers or cybercriminals. The aim of the scams is to trick recipients into clicking the links in them that go to fake and phishing websites that steal account credentials, personal, and financial information.

I modified just in case. Original url scanned on virustotal shows it as clean, but it is not. The link is a stepping stone.
I figure that sense I do not have any type of account with costco whatsoever, it's a scam big time.

I received the same sort of message. It came in as a text from 917-328-6178 with the message: "Costco: David, your code 64117 printed on your receipt from 18 came in 2nd in our Earpods raffle: h4gsz.info/YiBPy23AKg"By the way, I ensured my VPN on was and then opened up a TOR Browser window and pasted that url in there. It took me to my Google Sign page (which I immediately closed without doing anything further) and then closed my browser.

I received the exact same text now as the last poster. I don't live near a Costco after moving from WA. I did a mail order about 2 years ago so I knew it was a fake immediately. The only time I have been in Costco in recent years is in Mexico.

I was thinking that too. How do they know I shop at Costco? And how did they know I was there this morning? Also, does anyone know what the spammer meant by ". . . printed on your receipt from 20 . . . ." (See, e.g., the last example spam message shown above.) From 20 what? From Register # 20? From 20 July, 2021? The spammers should, as a courtesy to their potential victims, proofread what they write.
