Tax Scam 833-766-1884 Voicemail, Robocall and Resolution Department

The 833 tax scam call below is a fraudulent robocall or voicemail claiming the recipients owe back taxes and they should call a fraudulent Tax Resolution department telephone number to reduce the so-called interest.

The Tax Scam Voicemail Call

"This is an important update regarding your past due taxes. As you know, resolution options are time sensitive and extension deadline has passed. It's crucial we speak to you and get you into a resolution program. To reduce accruing interest, give us a call as soon as you get this at 833-766-1884.

Regarding stopping further collection activity, that's 833-766-1884. We look forward to hearing from you and reaching a resolution.”

How the Scam Works

  • False Urgency: The caller or automated message claims you owe taxes and demands immediate callback.
  • Spoofed Numbers: They use a toll-free 833 prefix alongside a fake department name (such as the "Tax Resolution Team," "Tax Relief Resolution and Abatement Office," or "Tax Mediation Agency") to look legitimate.
  • Phishing for Data: If you call back, they attempt to steal your Social Security number (SSN), bank details, or charge illegal upfront fees.

Critical Facts to Know

  • The IRS Contacts You by Mail First: The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) never initiates contact with a cold phone call, text message, or email demanding immediate payment or threatening police/arrest.
  • No Gift Cards or Crypto: Legitimate tax agencies or authorized private collection agencies will never ask you to pay via prepaid debit cards, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers.

What You Should Do Immediately

  • Do Not Call Back: Returning the call connects you directly to the fraudsters and confirms your number is active.
  • Hang Up / Delete Voicemail: Do not press any prompts or provide any personal or financial information.
  • Verify Your Status: If you are genuinely worried you might owe taxes, check your account directly through Official IRS Online Account or call the IRS directly at 1-800-829-1040.
