Postcode Lottery Voucher Scam - Beware of Scammers

I just received a call from "Postcode Lottery" claiming people in my postcode have won a discount card for a number of shops and a voucher for a Villa break. They confirmed my postcode without me telling them, but they then asked for my bank details to deposit 1p in my bank to activate the card. I of course declined and they hung up. I called Postcode lottery and they have confirmed it’s a scam and they clearly have all the RG postcodes and working down a list.

I have just received a call supposedly from Postcode Lottery claiming I had won £399, gift vouchers and a villa holiday. They knew my postcode without me giving it and wanted my bank details to activate this and to pay in the money. I was suspicious and asked where they were located and was told central London which I did not believe. After refusing to give my details several times they hung up. I then checked the caller’s number on my phone and this was 0331657559.

Just had a call claiming I had won a discount card allowing a 50% discount from all the major supermarkets, etc. They gave me my name, address, and postcode but once they started asking about the age range I asked them why they needed this information. I was informed they needed to activate the card before sending it ... I then politely told them I wasn't interested.

  • November 2, 2021 at 2:50 PM by an anonymous user from: Milton Keynes, England, United Kingdom

Ha ha! Exactly the same scam tried on me this morning. I confirmed my age range (not my real age, of course) and like the earlier poster was then told I was entitled to a villa holiday for 4 along with plane tickets to anywhere in Europe. Obviously everybody "wins" the same "prize". They did not get as far as asking for my bank details, because I spun them along for 10 minutes saying I was disappointed their company was offering free flights, with all the concern about CO2 emissions and climate change, and the COPS26 conference taking place right now, why wasn't there an alternative prize with train travel? She sounded *really* confused, and at least I wasted some of her time during which she might have phoned someone more gullible and vulnerable.

  • October 26, 2021 at 5:00 AM by an anonymous user from: Sheffield, England, United Kingdom

I've just had one, said his name was Pete Mason. I asked where he was calling from and he told me he was calling from central London, in a place called Leeds. He then gave me LSI 3DA as the postcode. The number he was calling from had a Leicester dialling code. Totally a scam. I only answered the call because I'm searching for a job.

  • October 21, 2021 at 7:52 AM by an anonymous user from: Cosham, Portsmouth, England, United Kingdom

I have had this phone call twice. Just hang up,

  • October 18, 2021 at 8:20 AM by an anonymous user from: Sheffield, England, United Kingdom

Had this call twice in the last week. HR postcode. Try to tell you that they don't want your details because of GDPR but then tries to pass you to their supervisor to take your bank details to confirm your identity. Wasted their time for a while but they hung up when confronted that they aren't anything to do with the postcode lottery.

    • October 20, 2021 at 3:10 AM by an anonymous user from: E2, London, England, United Kingdom

  • October 8, 2021 at 8:13 AM by an anonymous user from: Reading, England, United Kingdom

Yes,I had that phone call today. The caller denied being a scammer and said she only (!) wanted my bank details in order to deposit £1 to "activate my account". I asked to speak to her supervisor and she rang off. Nice to know I wasted her time that she would otherwise be using to scam someone else.

  • September 28, 2021 at 10:06 AM by an anonymous user from: Eilean Darach, Garve, Scotland, United Kingdom

Received a phone call today from "Annie from Postcode Lottery" advising that I had worn a discount card that can be used in a variety of shops e.g. Tescos, Sainsburys. Also because I confirmed that I was in my 50s when confirming that I was over 18 I was then entitled to a villa holiday for 4 along with plane tickets to anywhere in Europe. Again looking for bank details to deposit £1 into my account to ensure that they were dealing with the right person. I kept "Annie" on the line for nearly 10 minutes and after this told "Annie" that it was a scam. She then had the audacity to say "Why are you wasting my time?!" before she hung up.

  • September 20, 2021 at 4:19 AM by an anonymous user from: East Sussex, Brighton, England, United Kingdom

Told ‘Marcus’ that I didn’t have an email address, just send the card with a £1 coin or a cheque! He said he only needed my account number, to which I replied that that would be no good without my full name and Bank sort code. I finished by telling him it was ‘a load of b******s’. All in all a very satisfying conversation that lifted my mood as I was ready for a good confrontation!

  • September 18, 2021 at 12:12 PM by an anonymous user from: Reading, England, United Kingdom

Received a call today and they kept asking me for my email address. I told the caller that if they were from post code lottery they would have my email address. They said they would put it in the post but didn't ask for my address. They called from 01778403008!

  • September 1, 2021 at 8:59 AM by an anonymous user from: Donnington, Newbury, England, United Kingdom

Stupid cow rang me explaining that I’d won a fantastic villa and flights for four to anywhere in Portugal valid for 1 year and I could even book the flights through them🤦‍♂️Asked her for an email confirmation….. she could even say my name, let alone spell it, so I asked her if her parents were proud of her career path and if she was really happy in her job….. she then asked me if she could ‘move in’ with me 🤦‍♂️I told her that I lived in a cave underwater and I needed a helicopter to get to it -yes, underwater-🙄 I p****d myself laughing and she told me that I was wasting HER time🤷‍♂️

Moral of the story, if they expect you to believe THEM make sure that you ‘do their’ head in .

  • August 24, 2021 at 10:48 AM by an anonymous user from: E2, London, England, United Kingdom

I just had a similar call. When I checked back, the number called from was 0043 2034 091977. This appears to be an Austrian number. Anyway, they didn't ask for any bank details, just the direct debit 6 figure number. I gave the phone to my wife and checked online if this was a scam. I hope these people eventually get caught and locked up for a long time! I have had elderly relatives taken by these low lives before and wish nothing but pain, anguish and misery on every one of them!

  • August 24, 2021 at 8:22 AM by an anonymous user from: Milton Keynes, England, United Kingdom

I just said that I didn't consider that the call was a genuine one and she said, no this is not a genuine call, at which point I laughed and said then you have just admitted to being a criminal scammer. She didn't understand the comment and wasn't fast enough to realise she'd been rumbled. Noisy, busy call centre with usual voip time lag and heavy accent. Must think we are all stupid.

  • August 19, 2021 at 2:33 AM by an anonymous user from: Mill Hill, London, England, United Kingdom

Yesterday 18.8.21 I recd a call, saying I had won a discount card, had never heard of this, they started by informing me of my postcode, then started with wanting my age, I told them I didn't give this information out and hung up on them. If an offer seems too good it normally is 50% of my shopping! Yep too good.

  • August 17, 2021 at 8:54 AM by an anonymous user from: E2, London, England, United Kingdom

Just had a call in connection with the postcode lottery from a woman with very bad spoken english. The best thing is to treat them with the contempt they deserve.

I calmly but firmly pointed out that it is impossible to win something I have never entered and that I knew they were engaging in fraud. Then they hung up! How rude!

If I have a few minutes to spare I quite enjoy spinning a story and winding up dodgy unsolicited callers. Never give them genuine information but embroider something to tie them up in knots.

He asked for my sort code and bank account number saying it was safe because he wasn’t asking for my card number or security code. When I said I wasn’t happy to give them and said it was a scam he denied and tried to reassure me by saying I could find an old discontinued bank card so he could deposit £0.1p . He also said I’d get confirmation be email. I replied I couldn’t remember discontinued card details so he said he’d hold on while I searched for it. I then hung up.

I just received a call and he could only send it if I told him my age, he doesn’t get that you can’t ask a lady her age.

  • July 29, 2021 at 2:50 AM by an anonymous user from: E2, London, England, United Kingdom

Just received call from the scammers they are very plausible quoting the reason they need you to verify your bank sort code and account number where your direct debit is taken as under GDPR they are not allowed to keep that information- rubbish can see why a lot of people would be convinced. Think of first principles if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. Worrying thing how did the access my name and mobile number!

Today, I received two such calls. Both were international calls. One from Etiopia, the other from Germany. Poor call quality.

  • July 18, 2021 at 5:14 AM by an anonymous user from: Swindon, England, United Kingdom

Received the same scam. I think this is related to the scam text where they say you missed a parcel delivery. In my case, it was 'fake Hermes' and when I got the txt, it so happens I was waiting for an important doc for Hermes that day. So I stupidly put in some personal details, including address & postcode. I think that's how this fake postcode lottery has my details.

  • July 9, 2021 at 7:32 AM by an anonymous user from: Reading, England, United Kingdom

I have just had the same call and also did not give my details. the man on the line was very indignant that I thought he was lying however, he put the phone down when I said my partner was in the police and he was welcome to call back when his shift was over and have a chat with him! Never give your details if a company can take money out - ie direct debit for this lottery- they can pay it in without you giving any details. The account is live do they don’t need to put a penny or take a penny - be aware

  • June 29, 2021 at 3:47 PM by an anonymous user from: London, England, United Kingdom

I once had a letter saying I'd won something like 2 or 3 thousand pound on a competition I didn't enter. All I had to do was send them £15, 'express delivery and priority handling fee'. I wrote back saying the standard delivery will suffice. Just my way of saying don't mess about with me. Never heard from them again

  • June 29, 2021 at 3:47 PM by an anonymous user from: London, England, United Kingdom

I’ve just been called by ‘The postcode lottery’ and they said I have won supermarket vouchers for a year. I had to verify the account details of the account my postcode lottery is paid out of. When I told them I didn’t know the details they just hung up. SCAM
