I recevied similar email. But didn't see it until weeks later (it was to an old email address). And I had another email from Paypal the follwong day saying they had automatically declined the transaction on my behalf. Fair play to PP for making the right call.
I looked up Webroot and apparently the site I used to get their phone number was illegitimate. The so-called rep ended up signing me up with Carbonite and a firewall. I have now disputed those charges on my credit card because of my belief the call was not valid. and reported this to the FTC. I have tried to reach Carbonite to cancel for 3 days and keep being told they were having systems problems and therefore customer service was apparently not taking calls. This is ridiculous.
Same scam, different name: Diana W Cho
Same scam different name - Travis H Haynes
Yep, just received identical scam £499.99/from same company. Immediately canx and blocked.
Is the cancel function genuine or does it go back to the scammers? I've reported the money request I got today -21st Dec from Fiona Guttman re Webroot Security(never heard of them)- for the same amount as you to Action Fraud and Paypal's phishing email rather than click anything in the message. But if the source is genuine, maybe I need to click it or risk having the money taken.
Got the same email but from a person named Carson Nitzsche. Immediately Googled Webroot Security LLC PayPal and found this SCAM scheme. I am going to Decline and Cancel this fake invoice.

Received request for £897.77 from someone calling themselves "Rhonda Hos 0077@outlook.com. Fell for the fake phone number so had to change two bank cards and my password. It appears that Paypal are not interested in avoiding this scam as they do not enter into conversation about this matter. Not sure if I want to link another card to Paypal as their attitude is pathetic.
I received a similar one today from the same scammers but the name was Charles Lucas. Thank you for the information. I have cancelled the request on PayPal and will now report it to them and to the FTC.
Received the same email/scam. The email is REAL and is REALLY FROM PAYPAL, but is just a request for money. It reads like they will deduct your account if you don't act within 24 hours. Webroot is a real company. I believe the scammers are pretending to be Webroot. I logged into my PP account directly, and confirmed it was a real request for money. I was able to CANCEL it, and then I forwarded the email to Phishing@paypal.com, AND reported it to the FTC. If this happens to you, do NOT call the number provided. They'll pretend to be Paypal and steal your information. Cancel the request, fw the email to paypal, AND REPORT it to the FTC here: https://reportfraud.ftc.gov.ORIGINAL EMAIL READS: (I removed my name, the transaction ID and any other numbers which may/may not make me susceptible to hacking...)
