How the Scam Works

  • Luring the Victim: They promise a free $500 gift card or cash bonus if you click a link, fill out a survey, or share the post.
  • The Trap: The link leads to a fake website designed to steal your passwords, credit card numbers, or login credentials.

How to Protect Yourself

  • Ignore and Delete: Never click links in social media posts promising free money or high-value gift cards.
  • Check Official Sites: Real promotions are only hosted on Target’s official website or app, not via random social media links.
  • Never Pay to Win: Legitimate companies will never ask you to pay a fee, buy gift cards, or share personal codes to claim a "free" prize.
