Target Anniversary $500 Gift Scam - How to Protect Yourself
Target Anniversary $500 Gift Scam - How to Protect Yourself

Social media posts or messages claiming Target is giving away a $500 gift card for an anniversary or celebration are phishing scams. Target does not run these free $500 giveaways. Fraudsters use fake posts and links to steal your personal information, hack your accounts, or infect your device.

How the Scam Works

  • Fake Social Media Posts: Scammers post ads or send messages on platforms like Facebook or Instagram claiming Target (or another major brand) is celebrating an anniversary.
  • Luring the Victim: They promise a free $500 gift card or cash bonus if you click a link, fill out a survey, or share the post.
  • The Trap: The link leads to a fake website designed to steal your passwords, credit card numbers, or login credentials.

How to Protect Yourself

  • Ignore and Delete: Never click links in social media posts promising free money or high-value gift cards.
  • Check Official Sites: Real promotions are only hosted on Target’s official website or app, not via random social media links.
  • Never Pay to Win: Legitimate companies will never ask you to pay a fee, buy gift cards, or share personal codes to claim a "free" prize.
