ASP Scam Phone Calls

ASP Scam Phone Calls

The Arkansas State Police (ASP) warns of scam calls featuring individuals impersonating ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children) officers, frequently using a fake "Officer Jackson" to threaten residents with warrants. These fraudulent callers demand personal information and, in some cases, payments to avoid arrest. ASP will never call to announce an investigation or threaten arrest over the phone.

About the Scam

  • The Tactic: Scammers use intimidation, alleging you are under investigation and demanding a return call to avoid a warrant.
  • Action Required: Hang up immediately if you receive such a call.
  • Protection: Do not provide personal or financial information, and do not use provided callback numbers.
  • Reporting: Report calls to local law enforcement, the ASP, or the Arkansas Attorney General's Office at (501) 682-2007 or via email at oag@arkansasag.gov.

Warning Signs

  • Pressure to act immediately or threats of arrest.
  • Requests for payment via prepaid cards, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers.
  • Calls starting with a pre-recorded message (robocall).
  • Requests to verify personal information already known to official agencies.

If you are unsure of a call's legitimacy, hang up and call the agency back using a verified phone number from their official website.
