Oklahoma DPS Scam Text Message - Beware

The Oklahoma Department of Public Safety (DPS) or Service Oklahoma never sends text messages demanding payment or threatening immediate license suspension. If you receive an unsolicited text claiming to be from the DPS or DMV regarding unpaid tickets or tolls, it is a phishing scam.

Key Warning Signs

  • Threats of Suspension: Messages often state your license will be suspended or a warrant will be issued unless you click a link.
  • Impersonation: Texts claim to come from OK DPS, the "Department of Vehicles," or the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
  • No Official Fines via SMS: State and local agencies do not text you about traffic violations or collect fine payments over the phone. All legitimate fine collections go through a county court clerk's office.

What to Do If You Get a Message

  • Do NOT click any links in the text message.
  • Do NOT provide any personal or financial information.
  • Delete and report the message. You can forward scam texts to 7726 (SPAM) to alert your mobile carrier.
