Huntington Bank Scams - How to Protect Yourself

Common Huntington Bank Scams

• The Zelle Account "Upgrade" Scam: Fraudsters call pretending to be Huntington’s fraud department or Zelle representatives. They claim you need to transfer funds via Zelle to another account to "protect" your money or upgrade your account.
• Fake Text Fraud Alerts: Phishing texts claim your account or debit card has been "locked" due to suspicious activity. They provide a fake hotline number (e.g., 866-508-0040) or a link to a lookalike website designed to capture your login credentials.
• Caller ID Spoofing: Scammers call you using a spoofed number that exactly matches the real Huntington Customer Service Hotline. They claim a large transaction is pending and ask you for your login info, Social Security Number, or an emailed temporary passcode to "cancel" it.

Golden Rules of Protection

• Banks never ask for credentials: Huntington will never contact you out of the blue to ask for your password, PIN, online banking login, or one-time verification codes.
• Never move money to save it: A legitimate bank will never instruct you to move, wire, or Zelle money to another account to resolve a security issue.
• Hang up and call back: If you get a suspicious text or call, do not click the links or use the phone numbers provided in the message. Hang up immediately. Log into your official app or call the trusted number found on the back of your physical debit or credit card.
