Cloud Storage Scam Emails - How to Protect Yourself
Cloud Storage Scam Emails - How to Protect Yourself

Cloud storage scam emails mimic authentic alerts from services like Apple iCloud, Google Drive, or Microsoft OneDrive. They falsely claim your storage is full, an account is disabled, or a payment failed, pushing you to click a malicious link to steal your login and credit card details.

Recognizing a Fake Cloud Warning

  • Induced Panic: The email threatens immediate deletion of your photos, files, or videos if you do not act.
  • Fake Links: Hover over (but do not click) the "Upgrade Now" or "Fix Payment" button. The URL will look slightly off or completely unrelated to the official service.
  • Impersonation: The email may display a spoofed sender address that mimics the company name.

If You Received a Scam

  1. Do Not Click Links: Never use buttons or download attachments directly from these emails.
  2. Verify Your Storage Independently: Check your storage space by logging directly into your account through your official Apple, Google, or Microsoft app, rather than visiting links in the email.
  3. Report the Phishing Attempt: Forward the malicious email to your provider (e.g., reportphishing@apple.com or abuse@icloud.com for iCloud).
  4. Delete the Message: Mark the email as spam or phishing and remove it from your inbox.
  5. Take Action If Compromised: If you already clicked the link and entered information, reset your passwords immediately and enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on your accounts.
