Vinted is not a scam. Founded in 2008 in Lithuania, Vinted now operates in 26 markets and is a legitimate, multi-billion-dollar global online marketplace for second-hand clothing and goods. However, because it operates as a peer-to-peer (C2C) platform where anyone can create an account, individual bad actors and scammers frequently try to exploit the system. Safe usage relies on understanding how the platform operates, recognizing potential risks, and knowing how to protect transactions.

How Vinted Protects You

  • Secure In-App Checkout: Vinted holds the buyer’s payment in escrow and does not release the funds to the seller until the package arrives and the buyer confirms everything is fine.
  • Buyer Protection Fee: Every purchase automatically includes a small protection fee that covers eligible issues, such as items that never arrive, arrive damaged, or are significantly not as described.
  • Integrated Tracking: Official shipping labels tie the delivery status directly into the app, providing concrete proof of movement and delivery.

Rules for Safe Trading

  1. Never go off-platform: Always use the official "Buy now" button and keep all chat and payments inside the Vinted App.
  2. Never click external links: Ignore any links sent in chat claiming you need to input card details to "receive payment" or "verify tracking".
  3. Inspect profiles and prices: Avoid brand-new accounts with zero reviews selling luxury items for unrealistic bargain prices.
  4. Report issues immediately: If an item is wrong or damaged, you must click "I have an issue" within 48 hours of the tracking showing delivery, or the money auto-releases to the seller.
