If the Windows Defender scam threat popup below shows up on your computer screen, close it and do not follow the instructions in it. This scam is being used by scammers to trick potential victims into calling the fake Microsoft Technical support telephone number in the popup message. The fake telephone number is part of a fake call center run by scammers attempting to trick potential victims they are from Microsoft.
The Windows Defender Scam

The scammers will ask potential victims to disclose their account credentials, personal and financial information, which they will fraudulently. They may also ask them to give them remote access to their computers. With remote access, the scammers will silently search for and steal information and install spyware.

If you were tricked into giving them remote access to your computer, have a professional computer technician scan your computer and remove spyware or malware that the scammers may have installed.
