To look up a phone number and determine if it is a scam, you can use several specialized, free reverse phone lookup tools that evaluate threat data, spam volume, and community reports.
Even if a lookup tool shows a number belongs to a legitimate local business, a utility provider, or a government agency, scammers can fake what appears on your caller ID. This is called neighbor spoofing or organization spoofing. If a call or text demands urgent payment, threatens legal action, or asks for sensitive codes, hang up immediately and look up the official number of that business or agency directly.
