National Do Not Call Registry Phone Number

The National Do Not Call Registry is a free federal database managed by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) that allows you to block unwanted commercial telemarketing calls.

How to Sign Up

You can register both home landlines and mobile phone numbers. Your registration never expires.

  • Online: Visit the official DoNotCall Registration Page. You must input your phone number and email address. You will receive a confirmation email. You must click the verification link within 72 hours to complete the process.
  • By Phone: Call 1-888-382-1222 (or TTY: 1-866-290-4236). You must call from the exact phone number you wish to register.

What to Expect

  • Timeline: It takes up to 31 days for legitimate telemarketing companies to remove your number from their lists.
  • Allowed Calls: The registry does not stop all calls. Charities, political groups, debt collectors, survey firms, and businesses you have an existing relationship with can still call you legally.
  • Scam Calls: Fraudulent operations and scammers ignore the law. Being on the registry will not block these illegal calls. If you receive them, hang up immediately.

Reporting Violations

If you receive a commercial sales call after your phone number has been listed on the registry for 31 days, you can file an official complaint. Use the reporting tool on DoNotCall.gov or call their toll-free number to report the violation.
