Online Threat Alerts (OTA) - Alerting you to scams and frauds.
Scamming - Fraud
If you have received phone calls from telephone number 415-234-0491, in which the caller claims he/she is from the IRS and have important information about your taxes or that there was an error on your taxes and you owe a substantial amount of money. Please do not give them your information because it is a scam call.
Remember, the IRS will never contact you via telephone and ask you for your personal / financial information and ask you to make payment. They will send notices by postal mail and give tax payers enough time to respond and dispute claims.
Again, if you have received a call from 415-234-0491 or any other phone numbers claiming that you owe the IRS and you are required to make payment or else, it is a scam.
Always call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 to verify any IRS phone calls, emails or other messages that you have received. For other offices, look up the name in the phone directory and call the listed number, instead of the number in the message.
Please report any suspicious phone calls to the police or your service provider.

Calls from (415) 932-8289, same scam.
Same scam, different number (same area code) targeting >70 year old purportedly from "Internal Revenue SErvice" from phone number 415-604-5528
I received the same message from NikkI Johnson but the number seems to have changed - the number on my caller ID was 415 234 0513. When I told the man on the other end of the line that I would never give personal or banking information over the phone and I was going to report him immediately, he started begging me not to - saying that he was "poor" and "what else was he supposed to do".This is a scam!
Same name & number left us two meesages today. Definitely a scam.
I prepare tax returns and so far 3 of my clients have received such calls. I tell my clients to troll them. Basically acting scared and to keep questioning them. These people are so uninformed that they are trying to get back taxes from 2008 thru 2012. What they don't know is that tax years 2008 thru 2011 are closed because of the statute of limitations. I tell them to go ahead and arrest me.I even had one client tell them that she was in jail during those years. It is so much fun to s***w with them if you have the time and want a good laugh. I also tell them that it is phone harassment and I will have their phone number disconnected.Sometimes I will just call them to relieve any stress just for the h**l of it. Have some fun and record the call. Check out youtube for some of these calls.
I received phone calls from 415-234-0491 and 443-964-9340 impersonating IRS agents, I just want to report them.Thank you
I also received a call from (415) 234-0491 on 4/20/15 at 9:06am and the person claimed to be NIKKI JOHNSON from the IRS. From ArthurKillingly Ct
I got a voicemail early this morning from an "IRS Officer" saying it was urgent and time sensitive. First tip was that it was a computer voice. Second, was that there was no toll-free number to call. I figured it was a scam. Yep.
I received a message that sounded automated saying it was Officer NikkI Johnson. It said the message was time sensitive and I should not ignore the message. I should call back before they take action against me.
It is scam.
I got a phone call from this number and was told that I owe the IRS $4998.32 and that if I had an attorney, I needed to let them know because I was about to be arrested today for unpaid back taxes.I asked for his name, and said it was Barry Jackson (he sounded asian and had a very strong accent - it was obvious at that moment, that this person wouldn't have been named "Barry" at birth).I stayed quiet, trying to listen to the background and the one I could hear, also had the same accent, then "Barry" said "hello!", and I immediately said "I'll contact my local IRS office" and he said, "you can do what you want but I need to know now, how you're going to pay", I then asked for his employee ID number and he said 8989...and hung up.I then chatted with an IRS representative at the IRS website and was told about this scam. If you read this, please beware and don't panick like I did when I heard the words "I'm calling from the IRS!"
