If online users attempt to sign into the phishing websites, their accounts' usernames and passwords will be sent to the cybercriminals behind the scam. The cybercriminals will then use the stolen credentials to gain access to the accounts, hijack and use them fraudulently.

Instead of clicking on links in email, text or social media messages to sign into their accounts, online users should always go directly to their email accounts via a web browser or mobile app and sign-in. Once they have signed, they will be alerted or notified of security or important updates, if there are any. Doing this will prevent online users from clicking on links that go to phishing websites that steal online account usernames and passwords.

Online users who have already been tricked by the scam asked to change their passwords immediately.
