8557928013 EBT Card Scam - How to Protect Yourself

The number 855-792-8013 is a known EBT card phishing scam. If you received a text message or phone call from this number claiming that your SNAP/EBT card is locked, deactivated, or suspended, do not reply, do not call the number back, and never share your financial information. Government agencies will never contact you out of the blue via text or phone to demand your EBT card number, PIN, or Social Security number.

What the Scam Looks Like

  • The Bait: You receive an urgent text message warning that your benefits have been frozen or your card has been disabled.
  • The Trap: The message instructs you to call a fraudulent number—like 1-855-792-8013—or visit a fake website to "reactivate" it.
  • The Goal: Automated systems or scammers on the other end will ask for your 16-digit card number and PIN to instantly clone your card and drain your food assistance funds.

What to Do Immediately

If you already called the number and shared your details, you must act fast to protect your benefits:

  • Change Your PIN Immediately: Use your official state EBT mobile app (such as ebtEDGE or ConnectEBT) or call the legitimate helpline number printed physically on the back of your EBT card.
  • Lock Your Card: If your state supports it, use your official mobile app to lock your card to prevent unauthorized online or out-of-state transactions.
  • Report the Stolen Card: Call your local SNAP office or state EBT customer service hotline to report the card as compromised and request a replacement.
  • File a Fraud Report: Report the incident to your local police department and file a consumer complaint online directly with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
