Online Threat Alerts (OTA) - Alerting you to scams and frauds.
Facebook - Whatsapp
Facebook users who have received email messages claiming that they have 2 or more messages that will be deleted in a few days are asked not to follow the instructions in them. This is because the email messages are fakes that are being sent by cyber criminals to trick the recipients into clicking on the links in them that go to a fake/phishing Facebook website. Once on the phishing websites, visitors will be asked to sign-in with their Facebook credentials, but any attempts to sign-in will result in the visitors' Facebook credentials being sent to the cybercriminals behind the scam.

Once the cybercriminals have gotten their potential victims' Facebook credentials, they will hijack their accounts and use them fraudulently. The cybercriminals will use the hijacked accounts to send phishing or malicious messages or posts to the owners of the hijacked accounts friends. Facebook users who have been tricked by the phishing scam are asked to change their passwords. For those whose accounts have already been hijacked are asked to click here for help to recover their accounts.
Facebook users should always go directly to www.facebook.com to sign-in and view their messages or use the Facebook app on their mobile devices. They should never click on a link in an email, text or social media post to sign into their accounts. Doing this will prevent them from becoming victims of phishing scams.
