These scammers manipulate emotions, claim privacy issues prevent real contact, and use deepfakes to maintain the illusion, leading to financial ruin and distress for victims. A French woman lost over €800,000 due to this scam.

How the Scam Works

  • Scammers pose as Brad Pitt or a close associate via social media or messaging apps.
  • They build a fake romantic relationship, sending personalized messages, poems, and AI-generated photos/deepfake videos that seem real but can't be verified.
  • A fabricated crisis emerges (e.g., urgent kidney surgery, needing money due to divorce issues) requiring large payments from the victim.
  • Scammers insist on secrecy and avoid video calls, instead sending deepfakes and claiming privacy concerns.

Warning Signs & Prevention

  • Be wary of unsolicited messages from celebrities or their "representatives".
  • If they avoid video calls and legitimate communication, it's a red flag.
  • Celebrities don't ask fans for money for personal emergencies.
  • A simple online search can reveal if a celebrity is actually hospitalized or in crisis.
