Fraudulent texts claiming to be from Sumter County School District are circulating, asking for online payments. The text messages appear to be from the telephone number 18003291689. They may ask recipients to click a link that directs them to a fake or phishing Bank of America website, which steals personal and financial information.

The telephone number 1-800-329-1689 may be a legitimate, being spoofed and use illegally by scammers.

Tips To Spot a Scam

  • Poor grammar or spelling
  • Sender email not ending in @sumter.k12.fl.us
  • Urgent requests for money
