NAOBL Scam Text, Emails and Call - How to Protect Yourself

The "NAOBL" (National Association of Better Living) scam refers to a series of unsolicited text messages, emails, or calls that use the organization's name to offer fake health insurance or benefits cards. These messages often bait you to click a link to claim benefits or update your information.

How the Scam Works

  • The Pitch: Scammers send messages claiming you have a "new benefits card," "Obamacare" plan, or health benefit waiting for you.
  • The Trap: They ask you to verify personal details—such as your Social Security number, banking details, or Medicare ID—in order to receive your card or lower your premiums.
  • The Reality: These offers are phishing attempts. They are cybercriminals trying to steal your identity or money.

How to Protect Yourself

  • Never Click Links: Do not open links in unexpected texts or emails regarding benefits.
  • Ignore Unsolicited Calls: Legitimate government agencies and major insurance providers rarely contact you out of the blue asking for sensitive information.
  • Verify Directly: If you receive a suspicious message, do not respond to the sender. Look up the official contact number for the organization yourself to confirm if there is a legitimate issue.
