The perpetrators are using the location and name of an actual law firm, who is in no way affiliated with the scammers. The scammers have contacted individuals all over the globe, usually claiming to be serving as representatives of an estate of a long-lost relative, looking to disburse insurance money. These scammers have commonly used the name David L. Cook, who is not a member of the Law Society and is not authorized to practice law in Alberta.Individuals who receive messages from Carlyle Partners are encouraged to contact their local law enforcement and report this issue.Before retaining a lawyer in Alberta, make sure she or he is an active member of the Law Society of Alberta.
