Consumers have reported receiving scam calls from 201 area code telephone numbers. The scammers ask for social security numbers (SSN) and claim to be law enforcement or Social Security Administration (SSA). They then attempt to scare or frighten you into thinking that your security number has been connected to running drugs and money laundering across the border.

    Please do not call telephone number 201-589-2543 and if it shows up on your caller ID, do not pick up the phone. People have received calls from the same number asking for Social Security numbers.
