FedEx Delivery Exception Calls, Email and Text Messages
FedEx Delivery Exception Calls, Email and Text Messages

If you receive an unexpected call, text, or email claiming there is a FedEx "delivery exception" or delivery failure, exercise extreme caution—this is a widespread phishing scam designed to steal your personal information or money.

How the Scam Works

  1. The Hook: You receive a automated call or a text message stating that a FedEx delivery failed due to an "incorrect address," "outstanding customs fees," or a "delivery exception".
  2. The Urgency: The scammer creates panic by claiming the package will be returned to the sender or destroyed if you do not act immediately.
  3. The Trap: They ask you to verify your identity, give your credit card number to pay a small "re-delivery fee," or click a link to update your details. Clicking the link takes you to a highly convincing, fake website (e.g., using deceptive URLs like fedex.com@besttp.ink or fedexvq.com) designed to harvest your credentials and bank info.

Major Red Flags

  • Requests for Money or Sensitive Data: Legitimate FedEx tracking updates will never ask you for passwords, personal identity numbers, or immediate payments via phone or text.
  • Strange Phone Numbers or Links: Even if a text or website looks official, look closely at the URL. A true FedEx link will always be on the official domain: fedex.com.
  • Aggressive Scenarios: In severe variations of this scam, callers may pretend to be FedEx agents claiming your package contains "illegal contraband" and threaten you with arrest unless you transfer money. FedEx will never do this.

What You Should Do

  • Do Not Click Any Links: If you receive a text, do not tap the link or call the number provided in the message.
  • Verify Independently: If you are actually expecting a package, navigate directly to the official FedEx Tracking Website or open the official FedEx app to look up your tracking number. If the tracking number isn't recognized, the notification is fake.
  • Report the Scam: Forward fraudulent text messages to 7726 (SPAM) for your mobile carrier, email suspicious activity to abuse@fedex.com, and report the incident directly on the FTC Fraud Reporting Portal.

If you already provided your financial details, contact your bank immediately to freeze your accounts and dispute any unauthorized charges.
