How the Scam Works

  1. The Hook: You receive an official-looking email claiming that an expensive purchase of Avalanche (AVAX) tokens has been made or is pending on your account.
  2. The Bait: The message provides a link or button (often labeled "Review Transaction," "Cancel Order," or "Contact Support") to dispute the charge.
  3. The Trap: If you click the link, you are taken to a spoofed, lookalike website that mimics a legitimate wallet or crypto exchange (like Core, MetaMask, or Coinbase).
  4. The Theft: The fake site will prompt you to connect your digital wallet or enter your Secret Recovery Phrase (seed phrase) to "verify" your identity or reverse the charge. The moment you type it in, the scammers drain your wallet.

How to Protect Yourself

  • Do NOT call the telephone number inside the email or message.
  • Do NOT enter your recovery phrase anywhere. The legitimate Avalanche Support Team will never ask for your private keys, password, or recovery phrase.
  • Check your actual account independently: If you are worried, open a secure browser window, manually type in the official URL of your exchange or crypto wallet, and check your transaction history directly. Do not use any links from the message.
