Is getipass.com a Scam?

The text messages claiming you owe money for unpaid tolls from 'getipass.com' or similar, often stating a "final notice unpaid toll balance," are a phishing scam. These messages are not legitimate, and the Illinois Tollway does not send text messages about unpaid tolls, according to warnings. Do not click the links, as they are designed to steal personal information.

Recommendations

  • Do Not Click: Delete the text immediately.
  • Report It: Report the message to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov.
  • Verify Independently: If you are worried about your account, go directly to the official Illinois Tollway website or use their official contact number (1-800-UC-IPASS) rather than clicking any links in a text.
  • Block: Block the sender.

The scam, which often uses phrases like "easy pass" or "fasttrack," aims to steal financial information. The legitimate Illinois Tollway warns against these smishing (SMS phishing) attempts and advises caution.
