Online Threat Alerts (OTA) - Alerting you to scams and frauds.
A widespread text phishing scam is impersonating PennDOT, falsely claiming recipients have unpaid traffic violations or toll fines that require immediate payment to avoid license suspension. These messages are fraudulent. PennDOT does not send text messages about fines or license issues; they use official U.S. mail.
These scams create a false sense of urgency to steal personal information. If you have been a victim, report it to local law enforcement or file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.
