O2 Scam Calls - How to Protect Yourself

Common O2 Scam Tactics

• The "30% Discount" Offer: Scammers cold-call claiming you are eligible for a major promotional discount on your bill. They request a One-Time Passcode (OTP) sent to your phone to "apply the discount." In reality, they are using that OTP to hijack your My O2 account.
• SIM Deactivation / Inactive SIM Phishing: Fraudsters send urgent texts or call claiming your SIM card is being deactivated or that you must sign new Terms & Conditions.
• Fake Customer Service Numbers: Criminals use AI-manipulated search engine results to display fraudulent contact numbers. If you call these numbers, fake agents will attempt to steal your data.

How to Protect Yourself

• Never share your OTP: O2 will never call you out of the blue to ask for a one-time passcode, PIN, password, or bank details.
• Call O2 directly: If you are unsure whether a call is genuine, hang up and dial 202 (free from an O2 device) or 0344 809 0202.
• Use built-in protections: Ensure O2's free Call Defence service is active on your account. This service uses AI to automatically flag suspected spam or scam callers before you pick up.

If You Have Been Scammed

1. Report the number: Forward any suspicious texts or details of scam calls to 7726 (the UK's free reporting service).
2. Change your password: If you accidentally gave out info or clicked a link, change your My O2 password immediately.
3. Alert your bank: Contact your financial institution if you shared payment details or notice unauthorized transactions.
4. Notify law enforcement: Report the incident online to Action Fraud
