Facebook Scam - Powerball is Giving Free $1 Million Jackpot

The Facebook post: "POWERBALL is giving free $1 Million Jackpot," is a scam. This scam will try to trick you into sharing it by claiming that you can receive a $1 Million Jackpot at the websites: "discountings.xyz" and "mega-millions.com-xcs.xyz" by sharing it. But, the websites are fakes and have nothing to do with a Powerball Jackpot, and are only a scam to get you to comment on, "like" or share the same Facebook post and websites. The scammers may change may change the name of the website, so look out for the same scam at different websites.

I received such a powerball scam on my IM by befriending a person that I know but did not have as a facebook friend. I then received an IM from that person telling me they have fun and also saw my name as a winner.
I checked and this IM message was not send by that person. How can I protect myself so that this scam does not get send to my facebook friends, showing that it is coming from me.
