Scamming - Fraud
Today, I received the text below claiming my Bank of America card has been temporarily locked and instructed me to call 201-510-9434 to unlock. But, I never call these numbers directly. What I always do is to call the number on the back of my card when I received these text messages. I was a victim of a similar scam, and I won't be a victim again.

I got this yesterday afternoon at about 3 pm. Called from work phone and it answered "Verizon wireless - to reach Bank of America we must verify your identity" or close to that effect. I hung up knowing it was a scam as the text also slipped through with a phone number and texts you get from your banks are generally 4 digit code numbers if you've signed up for alerts.Don't fall for it! Promptly reported it directly to abuse@bankofamerica.com which is where they tell you to send the scam texts. I tried calling back later from that same "other" phone and was told the Call couldn't be answered right now, but to try again later. Yeah. right. VERY sophisticated scam though as they had an automated system in place to record caller's info and steal your identity/bank info.
I received the same text message yesterday (May 20, 2019). The text was claiming my Bank of America card has been temporarily locked and instructed me to call 201-510-9434 now to unlock it. I waited several hours before calling the number and there was no answer. The only reason I called was that I was expecting a new card from Bank of America which had not arrived in the mail. I had no intentions of giving any personal information since they should already have it. I was only going to verify that I had not received my new card.
