Scam Calls From Grenada: 473 Area Code

Do not answer calls from 473 international area code assigned to Grenada, Carriacou, and Petit Martinique in the Caribbean because this is a phone scam. The phone scam could result in a huge, unwanted charge on residents’ phone bills. The authorities said some residents have been receiving calls from the number 473-520-9774 and other 473 area code numbers. They said the caller is moaning and claiming to be in distress.

Police warn residents not to answer or call back if they receive a call from the telephone numbers from the area code, because doing so may result in a large phone bill. The police advise people not to call back unkknown telephone numbers from area code 473.

This type of telephone scam involves cybercriminals tricking you into calling premium-rate numbers. The money collected via the premium pay-per-minute services will be paid over to the scammers unless the scam is detected and shut down by the callers' service providers. The danger of these scams is not receiving the phone calls, but calling back the phone numbers.
