Multnomah County Circuit Court Scam

Multnomah County Circuit Court Scam

Scammers are impersonating Multnomah County Circuit Court staff and law enforcement via text and phone, demanding immediate payment for fake "Final Court-Ordered" fees, missed jury duty, or warrants. These scams use QR codes, fake judge names (like "Michael Rodriguez"), and threatening tactics to steal money via gift cards or bank transfers.

How to Identify the Scam

  • The Message: You receive a text with an image of a "Final Court-Ordered Mandatory Collection Notice" or a phone call from a "deputy".
  • The Demand: They demand urgent payment of fines for missed jury duty, warrants, or court fees to avoid arrest.
  • Payment Methods: Scammers request payment via QR codes, gift cards, Bitcoin, or wire transfers.
  • Fake Authority: They use real staff names, fake badge numbers, and spoofed phone numbers to seem legitimate.

Protect Yourself

  • Do Not Pay: The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office and Circuit Court will never call or text you demanding immediate payment, especially not via gift cards or apps.
  • Hang Up & Verify: If you receive a suspicious call, hang up immediately. Verify any alleged court issues by calling the court directly using an official, trusted number.
  • Don't Click Links: Do not scan QR codes or click links in text messages regarding court fees.
  • Report It: If you have been targeted, report the incident to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at 503-823-3333.
