How the Scam Works

The scam follows a specific pattern designed to gain your trust and then steal your money:

• The Hook: You get a text or WhatsApp message claiming they found your profile on HR platforms.
• Unrealistic Pay: They promise "guaranteed" daily pay (often $100–$500) and large bonuses (e.g., $1,000 "newbie bonus") for simple tasks.
• The "Task" Trap: You are asked to complete "tasks" like liking videos or updating data on a fake portal.
• The Pay-to-Work Scheme: Eventually, they claim you must pay a "fee" to unlock higher-tier tasks or withdraw your "earnings". Once you pay, the scammers disappear or demand even more money.

Red Flags

• Messaging Apps: Real WBD recruiters do not conduct hiring through WhatsApp, Telegram, or unsolicited SMS.
• Suspicious Email Domains: Official WBD communication only comes from @wbd.com. Scammers use fake domains like @careerwbd.com.
• Urgency & Poor Grammar: Messages often have awkward phrasing, grammatical errors, or pressure you to respond immediately.
• International Numbers: Many of these texts originate from international area codes (e.g., Morocco or Congo) despite claiming to be a U.S. company.

Recommendations

1. Stop all communication: Do not reply, even to say "stop," as this confirms your number is active.
2. Report the message: Forward the text to 7726 (SPAM) to help your carrier block similar messages.
