Metamask Wallet Scam Email - How to Protect Yourself

An email claiming to be from MetaMask asking you to verify your wallet, update your account, or perform KYC is a phishing scam. Because MetaMask is a self-custodial wallet that does not collect or store your email address, they will never initiate email correspondence.

How to Handle the Scam

  • Do not click on any links or download any attachments in the email.
  • Do not reply or call any phone numbers provided.
  • Delete the email immediately.

What the Scammers Want

Scammers send these emails to redirect you to a fake website that mimics the official MetaMask platform. They will ask you to enter your Secret Recovery Phrase or private keys under the guise of "verification". If you provide this, the scammers will gain full access to your wallet and immediately drain your funds.

If You Were Tricked

If you submitted your Secret Recovery Phrase or password, assume your wallet is compromised.

  1. Immediately create a new, separate wallet on a different device or browser.
  2. Transfer any remaining funds out of the compromised wallet to your new one.
  3. Report the phishing attempt via the official MetaMask Support page.
