Common Types of Scams

  • Imposter Communications: Fraudulent emails or letters regarding annual company reviews or business name renewals requesting direct payment.
  • Recovery Scams: Calls or messages from individuals claiming they are from ASIC and can help recover lost funds from previous investment scams for a fee.
  • Fake Endorsements: Social media ads misusing the ASIC logo or fake celebrity deepfakes to promote trading masterclasses and group chats on WhatsApp or Telegram.

How to Protect Yourself

  • Check the Sender: Genuine emails from ASIC always end in @asic.gov.au.
  • Verify Official Links: Access portals only via independent searches rather than clicking links in unsolicited messages.
  • Know What ASIC Doesn't Do: ASIC never cold-calls about investments, endorses trading courses, requests money to release funds, or asks for credit card details over the phone.
