Cash App Anniversary Celebration Scam - How to Protect Yourself
Cash App Anniversary Celebration Scam - How to Protect Yourself

The Cash App Anniversary Celebration is a phishing scam designed to steal your money, login credentials, and personal information. Cash App is not giving away anniversary cash bonuses or holiday gifts through text messages or social media links.

How the Anniversary Scam Works

  • The Hook: You receive a text, email, or social media DM claiming you won a large cash prize (e.g., $1,000) for Cash App's "anniversary celebration".
  • The Malicious Link: The message contains a link directing you to a fake website that mimics the official Cash App login page.
  • The Information Theft: Once on the fake site, you are prompted to enter your phone number, PIN, and the one-time login code sent to your phone.
  • The Upfront Fee Trick: Alternatively, the scammer might tell you that you must send a "clearance" or "verification fee" (e.g., $50) via Cash App to unlock your much larger anniversary prize.

Universal Red Flags to Watch For

  • Demands for upfront money: No legitimate Cash App sweepstakes will ever require you to send money to receive money.
  • Links in text messages: Official Cash App text messages never include links to external websites.
  • Requests for your PIN or login codes: Cash App staff will never ask for your PIN, sign-in codes, password, or full bank details.
  • Fake support phone numbers: Scammers often include fake customer support numbers in these messages. The only official customer support number is 1-800-969-1940.

If You Encounter This Scam

  • Do not click any links: Clicking the link can compromise your device or lead to phishing sites.
  • Block and report: Report the message or social media post immediately within the platform.
  • Verify in-app: If you are ever unsure about a promotion, open the actual app and look at your Activity tab to see if a real transaction exists.
  • Secure your account: If you accidentally entered your information, immediately change your PIN, log out of unrecognized devices via your settings, and contact official Cash App Support.
