I didn't respond to this email and the fraudsters sent a further email that 'cancelled the request for payment". Happy Days then!

I'm sorry for those who have fallen foul. Yes, it is very convincing. So convincing in fact that it genuinely looked as if the payment request was sent from a PayPal account. Of course, that could never be, could it? PayPal has robust verification systems in place and would have blocked the fraudsters account immediately.

Unfortunately, I was caught by this. It was VERY convincing - the email I received appeared to be genuine and, being unable to contact PP on the helpline on the website, called the number in the email.

After three attempts, I was finally connected. So, first step was to create anxiety, followed by frustration.

The Indian who answered appeared to work at PP - he was looking at all my transactions and asking me if they were correct. Obviously, he had hacked into the account somehow.

He told me the first payment (of 5) of £899 had gone through, so it would be necessary to reverse this. I was asked to give the PP code received by SMS, which arrived immediately (he already had my phone number), I cannot tell this from a genuine code sent from PP afterwards when I secured my account. Then, I received an SMS from my bank and I was asked for the code.

Thinking about this later, I started to feel very uneasy and contacted my bank and PP.

Just had this scam land in my inbox.

The email shows as coming from Paypal I called the number but the operator couldn't hear me, thankfully checked online for Bit Defender LLC and found this article, the name on the money request was from Dana A Thomas

Dana A Thomas sent you a money request

    NOTE FROM Dana A Thomas:

"You've Sent a Payment of £899. 99 GBP to Bit Defender LLC . If The Transaction is Unauthorized Contact Our Customer Support @ 44-800-058-4142"

Be aware of this, as a previous user suggested I've canceled the request and changed passwords

If you receive this message make sure to cancel the payment request. They cannot get your money if you cancel and don't call their number!

I have just saved my company from this scam thanks to this post.

We've received the message from PayPal and I was halfway through the confirmation with the Indian persona that answered the call when I read this article, cut-off the call immediately and have changes my password again.
