Is Tellcityhall a Scam or a Legit Market Research Company?
Is Tellcityhall a Scam or a Legit Market Research Company?

Tell City Hall is not a scam, but a legitimate public sector market research program run by a Canadian company called Advanis Inc. However, because they use automated robocalls, text messages, and emails to conduct surveys, they are frequently mistaken for a scam.

Why People Think it is a Scam

  • Deceptive Name: The name implies that they represent your local municipal government.
  • No Official Affiliation: Multiple Canadian cities—including Burlington, Calgary, Pitt Meadows, Port Moody, and Vancouver—have issued public warnings stating they do not employ or partner with Tell City Hall.
  • Third-Party Research: The company is actually hired by political groups, government departments, or private entities to poll the public on topics like provincial elections, cannabis laws, or local policing.

The Difference Between a Real Survey and a Scam

If you interact with a Tell City Hall outreach, you can verify its legitimacy using these rules:

  • What the legitimate survey does: They will text or call you to ask for opinions. They will link to their official domain (surveys.tellcityhall.ca). They explicitly state who is sponsoring the study on the login and closing pages.
  • What they never do: They will never ask for credit card data, bank details, social insurance numbers (SIN), or passwords.

How to Opt Out

If you want them to stop contacting you, the TellCityHall FAQ page provides two ways to opt out:

  1. Email: Send an email to info@tellcityhall.ca with the subject line "Opt Out".
  2. Phone: Leave a voicemail message requesting removal at 1-888-883-7094.
