"Mum I Smashed My Phone" Scam Texts
"Hi mum, I'm texting from a friend's phone. I smashed my phone, am in a repair shop, and need £240 with bank account details. "
"hey mum, I’ve smashed my phone and I’m using a spare. Can you message me on WhatsApp when you get this"
The aim of the scam is to trick parents into believing their children's phone has been damaged and they need money to repair it. The scammers will then instruct the concerned parents into sending money to their bank account.
