JPMorgan EBT Text Scams

Here some more fake customer support telephone numbers included in the scams (Do NOT call the numbers):

  • 517-332-2581
  • 855-523-1609

How the Scam Works

  • False Alerts: You receive an SMS text saying your EBT/SNAP card is locked, deactivated, or that there is an issue with a transaction.
  • Phonic Traps: The text tells you to call a fake phone number.
  • Data Harvest: An automated voice or website asks you to enter your 16-digit card number and PIN to "unlock" your account, which thieves then use to steal your benefits.

What You Should Do Immediately

  • Delete the text: Do not respond, click any links, or dial any numbers listed in the message.
  • Never share your PIN: VDSS and state agencies will never ask for your EBT card number or PIN via text or phone.
  • Use official channels only: Manage your account or check balances using the official ConnectEBT mobile app or website.
  • Lock your card: Turn on the card-locking feature in the ConnectEBT app when you are not actively shopping.
  • Report the fraud: If you shared your information or believe your benefits were stolen, call the official Virginia EBT Client Customer Service Helpdesk immediately at 1-866-281-2448 (available 24/7) or file a report via the VDSS EBT Scam Reporting Portal.
