Indiana Toll Road Scam - How to Protect Yourself
Indiana Toll Road Scam - How to Protect Yourself

The Indiana Toll Road Concession Company does not send text messages, emails, or phone calls demanding payment for unpaid tolls. Any text message, QR code, or court summons claiming you owe toll fees is a phishing/smishing scam.

How to Spot the Scam

  • Fake Court Summons: Scammers send fake photos of court documents (such as for the Marion Superior Court) featuring fake case numbers, fake judges, and QR codes to pay immediately.
  • False Urgency: Messages threaten severe late fees, license suspension, or arrest if you do not click an unverified link right away.
  • Unofficial Channels: The Indiana Toll Road only issues official unpaid toll notices via regular mail.

What You Should Do

  • Do Not Click: Avoid clicking any links, scanning QR codes, or calling numbers listed in the message.
  • Verify Legitimate Charges: Check your account directly through the Indiana Toll Road Self-Service Portal or call customer service at (574) 675-4010.
  • Report the Scam: File a complaint online with the Internet Crime Complaint Center or reportfraud.ftc.gov, then delete and block the number.
