Vinted scams generally fall into three categories: phishing, counterfeit goods, and transaction manipulation. Staying safe means recognizing these tactics and using Vinted's built-in security features.

1. Phishing & Off-Platform Scams

  • Fake Payment/Delivery Links: Scammers may message you (often via WhatsApp or SMS) pretending to be Vinted Support, claiming you need to click a link to verify your account, confirm a payment, or process a shipping fee.
  • The Danger: These links direct you to spoofed, fake websites designed to steal your credit card details or login credentials.
  • How to Avoid: Never leave the Vinted app to conduct a transaction, and never open suspicious links sent in chat. Vinted will never ask you to enter your card details outside of their official checkout process.

2. Counterfeit Goods

  • Fake Designer Items: Sellers list high-end clothing, shoes, or bags at "too good to be true" prices, often using stolen or blurry photos.
  • The Danger: You receive a cheap knock-off instead of an authentic item.
  • How to Avoid: Be extremely cautious with brand-new, expensive items sold for a fraction of their retail price. Always ask the seller for clear pictures of labels, authenticity tags, and serial numbers before purchasing.

3. Transaction & Swap Scams

  • Outside Transactions: A user might convince you to pay via bank transfer or PayPal Friends & Family instead of using Vinted's checkout.
  • The Danger: Once the money is sent outside the platform, you have no Vinted Buyer Protection, and the scammer will simply disappear without sending the item.
  • How to Avoid: Always complete your payments natively within the Vinted Checkout system.

4. What to Do If You've Been Scammed

If something goes wrong with your order (e.g., the item is fake or never arrives), Report the Issue within 2 days of the delivery status.

  • Buyer Protection: Provided you paid through the app, you are covered by Vinted's Buyer Protection policy, which can pause funds from being released to the seller while your case is reviewed.
