Online Threat Alerts (OTA) - Alerting you to scams and frauds.
If you have received text messages and calls asking you to call telephone number 4096839506, please do not. The messages and calls will say they are from AT&T and claim payment is on hold, but that is not true. So, instead of calling 409-683-9506, I called AT&T and they said they would never send a text with that information. They verified my payment, said I should not call the number because it is a scam.

I got the Payment on hold message. Ignore it or call AT&T
Scam received call also on July 4 same message
About the 4th call I've received from 410-200-5000 advising me to call 409-683-9506. Rather than that I went on-line to AT&T and found no problems, the bill had been paid recently. Then I called AT&T direct 8 AM Sunday, immediate answer. No problems with the actual AT&T. Finally, I logged on to onlinethreat and you confirmed this as a scam. Thanks. SIDE NOTE: If you called the number shown on your phone 'incoming' screen it might have taken you to another scam.
FRM:AT&T SUBJ:Payment on hold.Call 4096839506.MSG:2230 Illinois and I have Cricket wireless. RECEIVED 7/4 as well. Dum dums hah
I received this too. First clue it is spam is that it was July 4th, a National Holiday in the US. Second clue is that it says my payment is "on hold". What payment, I did not make a payment at all. And who is "holding' it - my bank, their bank? Third clue is, it asks me to call a number, one that is not toll free. All AT&T customers know that to call AT&T we dial 611 from our AT&T phone. In addition, AT&T and other major carriers have so many customers, they do not have the resources to single out one customer to contact about a billing problem. Instead, a warning message will appear on the online account website, saying your account is past due.
me too...received 7/4
