I got one from Intuit E-commerce service stating I was charged for a 3 year subscription and to contact Best Buy Total Tech at 1-802-383-6390.
Who can this scam be reported to?
Got a similar email but it doesn't mention "geek squad." The sender's name is "Nathaniel Billing~Dept" and the ostensible billing amount is $379.99. The phone number given is 973~607~3182.Something worth noting is that the "to:" and "CC:" fields both contain several addresses. Any time you get a questionable billing-related email, always look at the header to see if there are multiple recipients. No legitimate billing email would ever do this. It would always be sent to you privately. I suspect scammers do this intentionally so they don't waste time with anyone savvy enough to notice. They want calls from "easy marks."
Hello All,I figured I would update the scam list for this. The call back number from mine is 1-802-234-1736. Have a great day.
808-215-3337 is another number
808.501.2323 is another number
Today (2-14-2023) I received 3 emails similar to the above but with the phone number 1 802 549 6034. I went ahead and made a fake google number and called. It immediately took me to a call center rep with no bot or intro. I gave the rep my invoice number and he then directed me to a screen share website(only used by scammers and not geek squad). I asked him if he then told me to get my bank creds ready. I called him out and he told me to F*** off and hung up.
I recieved 3 emails today with this scam saying it’s charging me $349.99 for an annual fee for Intuit through Best Buy Geek Squad. It says my payment was successful but clearly it’s a scam because I’ve never had anything from geek squad and based on this I now know it is a scam. The number they said to contact was different than what other people noted. This is the number they put on the invoice:802-549-6034
I received an email from intuit, geek squad, saying that day auto who removed my $349 I think it was from my bank account for renewal of my account with them. I have no account with any geek squad. Is this a scam I assume thank you.
The number told me to contact them was 802-215-0745
This is starting yet again. Just received an email this morning. The phone number has changed to 802-755-5645. The wording is virtually the same as in the above sample
I received one too. Number was 802.215.0774
Same here. Two emails back-to-back. Price is now $349
Got two emails today. A different phone number was listed, an 802 area code.
Got two emails today."Thank you for your order. Glad I checked first before opening PDF.Geek Squad is a service through Best Buy and I didn't know how Intuit got mixed up withthat.Don't assume! Even if it looks legitimateJeez!
The e-mail address seems very legit. They're getting smarter.
Got one yesterday and a similar one today. Grrr. I freaking hate scammers and thieves!
I too received a fake Intuit email. Intuit does not own Geek Squad, I think that it is a Best Buy service. Although I opened the email, I did NOT open the PDF which may contain malicious content. What I did not notice before opening the email was the use of lots of single quotes that made no sense as a subject line.Be Alert! bad spelling or punctuation is a common indicator of phishing.
I received this scam yesterday. It's so obviously fraudulent.
So I wasn't aware of having any Geek Squad subscription and I called the number in the email, 808-444-7486, which is in Kaunakakai, HI. A woman answered, giving a first name and identifying herself as being with Geek Squad and I questioned her about the email. She asked for the invoice number on it, which I gave her, and she claimed the order came out of Dayton, OH, and when I advised that I had made no such purchase, she stated that I was a victim of fraudulent activity. She stated that she would open a ticket to cancel the transaction but that I would have to go to the App Store on my iPhone and she download this program that would create the ticket. Yeah, right. I refused, and she told me it was the only way the transaction could be canceled, and not to be worried, it wasn't a scam. I told her I would check it out and call her back, and she hung up the phone. Ha!
I just recieved the email but did not click invoice. I recently canceled my Geek Squad subscription so was leery of the email. found your post. Where can I report this????
I fell for it. I have to redo my bank account online profile, and clean my hard drive by resetting my computer. One relief is knowing to call my bank and my internet provider rigbt away, they took care of everything. I noticed while on my pc while on the phone with me, that they give you a code and once you enter it , they take over your mouse. Very scary.
So glad this post existed! I went back to examine the email more closely FOR THOSE STUPID TYPOS SCAMMERS LOVE and noticed they spelled "their" name with a plentiful use of "backwards apostrophes" and umlauts like these: GEÉK SQÜAD
Just got the very same thing. "Payment Processed to GEÉK SQÜAD Dear Customer, Thank you for choosing our service Again! I just almost fell for this until I looked it up while on the phone with them. I saw this article. The number was different tho. But the guy did not speak tech jargon at all and the background was loud. Best Buy wouldn't be so unprofessional. He wanted me to open a web browser and fill out a form. After reading this I just hung up on him. He had tried to tell me someone had hacked my account when I told him we hadn't signed up for anything. What a sham! Don't fall for it!
I received the same email, looked very legit and the web address it was from was real... getting worried of course I opened the pdf on my phone. Right after opening it I realized I shouldn't have and its a scam. By opening the pdf does that give them access to my phone now? Should I be worried? Im not sure what to do from here...
we just got this email 8-25-2022 in Wisconsin, USA. It is using a legit intuit email address. Took us a while to find confirmation that this is a phishing scam because of the legit email: quickbook-notification.intuit.com. Tried the 1-800 number in the email and no answer so was not able to assess the scam from their end. Did not click on any links or attachments.
Received such an email too. Twice in a month.gulp twice $349,..I understand this may get people worried and make them open the attached receipt. But don't do it. I live in France!!I knew I never registered to that Geek Squad thing!! Never answer those emails. I spammed it.
"They dont have lists of geek squad users...they just send it out to everyone. I got such an email and I never used geek squad."Same for me ... I am located in Germany and never thought of using Geek Squad services. So, email source for this hack seems to be global.
Today being August 24, 2022, Just received an email requesting our info for a Geek Squad renewal ($349.99 for the next 3-year subscription) that we've never had and wanted us to call back to :1-802-222-6481
I had the same thing. I know this is a scam
Just got the same one 802-214-8280 is the number being used.
I just received one of these last week, right after I got an email renewal for the legit Geek Squad renewal. I went to Best Buy to make sure I wasn't missing anything and they told me it was a scam. How did the scammers gets lists of Geek Squad users? I wonder if it was an inside job or a hacking.
They dont have lists of geek squad users...they just send it out to everyone. I got such an email and I never used geek squad.
I received the scam email. I called the 1 802 200 3842 number. Got what sounded like a middle east scammer. He wanted me to open my bank account so he could remove the charge. I told him I'd get my bank to delete but he insisted only he could do it. Well on the invoice its not charged to any account so I knew it was bogus. Beware, don't open any accounts for these scammers!
Report phishing emails to: reportphishing-apwg.org and report it to the FTC at FTC.gov/Complaint.
I received the same email but with the phone# 802-200-3738. I knew it was a fraud because of the wording and knew I hadn't subscribed to anything.
my email scam had a different phone number 1 802 200 3779 with an invoice attachment..
I just got the email. Thankfully I looked this up before opening the attachment or calling. I wasn't sure if I had signed up for anything as I did purchase a laptop about 3 years ago!
