Unifin, Inc. is a legitimate, licensed debt collection agency based in Illinois, but they are heavily criticized for sending vague, automated text messages that closely resemble phishing scams. Because scammers also spoof real collection agencies, a "Unifin" text could either be a legal notice from the actual agency, a case of mistaken identity, or an outright malicious scam.
The standard automated text typically reads: “This is Unifin, a debt collector. Contact us about ref#[Number] @ [Phone] or [Link]. Reply STOP to stop texts.”
